So this is a thing now huh? I guess it makes sense since stock Miata hoods are al-you-mini-yum.
Not for me, but it's better than that purposely rusted hood bullshit on VWs.

Hmm... Much of my 928 is aluminum. Blind......everyone.......It's less dumb than the BMW guys who buy over priced "carbon fiber" hoods that are actually only a single layer of carbon fiber, and then fiberglass for the rest of the layers, who leave them in bare gel coat to show off their (fake) carbon fiber hoods. Or the rusted VW crap.

Or people who put a carbon hood on a miata. Save like 120z bro! I just want to do it cuz my hood clearcoat is failing.

Yeah I think putting carbon fiber everything on cars is really dumb. But if it's real carbon fiber, as in all layers of matting are carbon fibers, that is one thing, if you really feel you need a super light, super strong hood (which I would argue most people don't, even a steel hood, does not weigh much). But from what I have read, the crazy expensive Vorsteiner hoods that people buy and show off, thinking they are carbon fiber all the way through, are just a single layer of carbon fiber to cosmetically dress up what is actually a fiberglass hood underneath. That is rice.

That makes more sense than an all carbon hood...

agreed. aftermarket carbon fiber is sorta overated in my opinion. fiberglass is light enough and strong enough for most uses it seems obviously carbon has its place in race cars but is it necessary in a hood or decklid?
